    What this course builds towards

    What passing requires, in summary

    1. Attendance. At least 22 of the 26 sessions. The first two absences are automatically excused; the third and fourth are made up by watching the recording and posting a short synthesis to the Session Make-Up Board within two weeks (or, where there is no recording or no reading, a short account agreed with the professor); an absence not made up in time, or a fifth absence of any kind, means the requirement is not met. Arrival after 1:20 pm is tardy; device, early-departure, and post-notice tardy absences are ordinary absences.
    2. Participation. The syllabus quiz at 100 percent, the Tech Digest Project complete, and 17 of the 21 annotation sets. Honors: all 21 sets and no more than one late item.
    3. The SIAR block. The Session 6 prep set and practice problems, and the Session 8 quiz (one complete attempt at Part A, and Part B).
    4. The portfolio. Your memo and your circle work (your draft and your letters): one memo meeting the Memo Rubric; one cure cycle. If your draft or your letters are missing at the close, 1:15 pm on the unit's memo date, the portfolio is not met.
    5. Citation integrity. No unresolved citation-integrity violation.

Honors Pass requires the Honors Pass level on participation, the SIAR block, and the portfolio. This list is a summary; the syllabus is the source, and where the two differ, the syllabus controls.

    Working with the professor

Course email is read and answered in batches, typically Tuesday and Friday mornings. A question whose answer helps everyone belongs on the Course Questions board in Canvas. No reply after two batch days? A resend is welcome and never counts against you. For genuinely urgent matters, put URGENT in the subject line. Office hours are Tuesdays and Fridays, 9:00-10:00 am, Worrell 3313; book a time on the office-hours calendar ↗.
